Lori Beer is executive vice president of Specialty Businesses and Information Technology, and a member of the executive leadership team for Indianapolis-based WellPoint, Inc. She is responsible for WellPoint’s Specialty Products, including dental, vision, life, disability and workers’ compensation, and its consumer-centric business 1-800 CONTACTS; Federal Government Solutions, which includes National Government Services (NGS) and the Federal Employee Plan (FEP); Information Technology; Information Management, and technology-driven innovation.

Overall, Ms. Beer and her team have P&L responsibility for more than 15 million Specialty lives and 3.3 million 1-800 CONTACTS consumers. Through Federal Government Solutions, she is also responsible for NGS’ federal contracts that serve nearly 23 million people with Medicare, and 1.5 million civilian federal employees, retirees and their dependents in WellPoint’s14-state service area who are enrolled in the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association’s nation-wide Service Benefit Plan. She is also responsible for developing the first commercial health care applications of IBM’s Watson technology, which is expected to help improve the delivery of quality, evidence-based health care to millions of Americans.
 
Previously, Ms. Beer served as executive vice president of WellPoint’s Enterprise Business Services, which included the company's operations, technology, real estate, information management, vendor partnerships, and strategic project portfolio. In this role, she was responsible for driving the business, technology and service solutions to deliver innovative health care products and services to the more than 33 million members of the company's affiliated health plans. She led more than 50 percent of WellPoint’s associates and managed a portfolio exceeding $3 billion.
 
Ms. Beer has more than 20 years of technology and related business experience, including more than 14 years at WellPoint. She has a proven track record of driving innovation, maximizing technology investments and delivering cost-efficiency.
 
Ms. Beer has been recognized by Profiles in Diversity Journal as one of the "Women Worth Watching,” by Insurance & Technology magazine as one of its “Elite Eight” (2009), as a Computerworld 2011 Premier 100 IT Leader and as the 2011 National Association for Female Executives Women of Excellence Health Care Champion. In 2009, WellPoint was named to InformationWeek’s list of Top Technology Innovators and has been included on Computerworld’s 100 Best Places to Work in IT for the past two years. Ms. Beer is one of the executive sponsors of WellPoint’s Abilities Beyond Limited Expectations (ABLE) associate resource group.
 
Ms. Beer serves on the boards of directors for Vantiv, Availity, L.L.C., and Council for Affordable Quality Healthcare (CAQH). She serves on the University of Cincinnati Advisory Board for Operations Business Analytics Information Systems (OBAIS). She is a member of the CIO Executive Council and CIO Leadership Network. She earned a bachelor of science degree in computer science from the University of Dayton.
