Peter D. Haytaian is executive vice president of WellPoint, Inc. and president of the company’s Government Business Division, which includes all operations related to Medicaid, Medicare and Federal Government Solutions (comprised of National Government Services and the Federal Employee Program). WellPoint is one of the nation’s leading health benefits companies, serving nearly 67 million people through its affiliated companies, including nearly 37 million enrolled in its family of health plans.
 
In his previous position, Mr. Haytaian served as president of the Medicaid business at WellPoint. He led Medicaid operations in the 19 states WellPoint serves, working to ensure high quality care and greater access to health care for 4.5 million people.
 
From 2005 to 2013, Mr. Haytaian held several senior leadership positions with Amerigroup Corporation, including serving as chief executive officer of the North Region for the Medicaid business and leading the company’s Medicare Advantage business.
 
His previous leadership positions include serving as vice president of Government Programs and Specialty Businesses for Oxford Health Plans Inc., where he was responsible for managing Oxford’s government-sponsored lines of business, including the federal Medicare+Choice program and individual commercial products. He also was involved in evaluating and implementing commercial expansion opportunities for the company. Prior to joining Oxford, Mr. Haytaian served as a regulatory attorney and lobbyist on health care and election law issues at the law firm of Graham, Curtin and Sheridan.
 
Mr. Haytaian earned his Bachelor of Science in marketing and communications from Clarkson University in Potsdam, N.Y., and his law degree from St. John’s University School of Law.
