Help for Members Impacted by the Wildfires in Washington

Aug 14, 2026

August 14, 2026

We’re making temporary changes to your health plan benefits if you live in a Washington county impacted by the current wildfire emergency. We’ve relaxed certain health plan rules to make it easier for you to get care during this emergency.

The changes are in effect between August 4 and September 30, 2026, for the following Washington counties: Chelan, Ferry, Okanogan, Spokane, Stevens and Yakima.

The changes are also for emergency responders who have been assigned to the area by their state or local agency.

For assistance during this emergency, please call us

We’re here to help make sure you have access to the healthcare you need. We can help with finding available doctors, refilling prescription drugs, and other health plan questions.

  • If you purchased your Wellpoint plan on the Health Insurance Marketplace – call 833-476-1457 Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. PT.
  • If you purchased your Wellpoint plan outside the Health Insurance Marketplace call 833-728-2243 Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. PT.

Prescription drug refills

  • If your Wellpoint plan covers your prescription medicines, you can get up to one 30-day emergency supply. This is also available to emergency personnel who have been activated by their state and local agency but who do not reside in an area or county affected by this emergency.
  • Refill limitations are suspended during the emergency.
  • Impacted members (including emergency personnel who are members) may also refill their prescriptions even if they do not reside in the impacted county or area.
  • There is a 60-day moratorium for cancellation of any policy in effect for any member who resides within the disaster area and is directly affected. Any penalties associated with late premium payments during the moratorium period will be suspended.
  • If you use pharmacy home delivery through Wellpoint and your address changed due to the emergency, call us so we can make sure to send your medicine to the right place.

Lost medical equipment, eyeglasses, or contact lenses

  • Contact us and we can help you replace them.

The dates and locations for these relaxed guidelines may change based on conditions. Please check back here for updates.

These changes are for impacted members who live in the impacted Washington counties and who have Wellpoint group health plans through their employers, or Wellpoint individual and family plans. They do not apply to Medicaid, Medicare, Medicare Part D, Medicare Advantage, Federal Employee Health Benefit Plans, or fully insured trust funds. These plans have their own guidelines.
