New to ACA Marketplace health insurance plans? Find answers to common health insurance questions.

You may qualify for Marketplace insurance if you don’t have access to an employer-sponsored health plan. It’s also a good option if you don’t qualify for government-run health coverage, such as Medicaid or Medicare. There is no income limit to qualify for a Marketplace insurance plan. To be eligible, you must:

Live in the United States.
Be a U.S. citizen or national (or be lawfully present, such as a green card holder).
Not be in prison or jail.
Not be eligible or enrolled in Medicaid or Medicare.

The ACA offers financial help, also known as a subsidy, to help reduce the cost of coverage.^‡ Generally, this is based on household income and the number of people living in the home. If you qualify, a health insurance subsidy may lower or eliminate your monthly payment for a Marketplace plan.

If you enroll in a Marketplace plan at the Silver level, you may also qualify for a cost-sharing reduction subsidy. This lowers out-of-pocket expenses including your deductible, copays, coinsurance, and out-of-pocket maximum.

Or, depending on your income, you may be eligible for Medicaid.

Virtual care visits refer to video consultations, as deemed appropriate by a licensed physician. In addition to using a telehealth service, you can receive in-person or virtual care from your own doctor or another healthcare provider in your plan’s network. If you receive care from a doctor or healthcare provider not in your plan’s network, your share of the costs may be higher. You may also receive a bill for any charges not covered by your health plan. Sydney Health is offered through an arrangement with Carelon Digital Platforms, a separate company offering mobile application services on behalf of your health plan. Virtual care visits using the Sydney Health app are not available in Washington state, but may be available through your care provider depending on the virtual care services they offer.
